State seminar on ECG interpretation made easy -14.02.2018

Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing Home organized a one day State Seminar entitled “ECG Interpretation Made Easy” on 14.02.2018 at Dr. JMT auditorium, K.P. Road, Nagercoil.  The seminar was approved by The Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council and accredited with 6 Credit hours.

The seminar was organized with the aim of providing nurses with up-to date information to enable correct interpretation of the ECG and rhythms on monitor to enable effective care of cardiac and critically ill patients, thereby promoting optimal patient outcomes.

The seminar was conducted at Dr. JMT auditorium from 8.00 am to 5 pm. The Inauguration ceremony started with a prayer song by hospital choir, followed by Mrs.Vanammal, Nursing Superintendent welcoming the gathering, the kuthuvilakku was lit by the dignitaries. The seminar keynote message was given by Mrs. Mabel Samson, Nursing Administrator, followed by the seminar presentations started.

The first presentation was made by Dr. Ranjith, DNB (Anaesthesia) Registrar.  Who reviewed the Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology with appropriate pictures, followed by the presentation on Recording a 12-Lead ECG & obtaining a rhythm strip by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi,M Sc(N), Nurse Educator.  She demonstrated the procedure of taking 12 lead ECG and a rhythm strip with ECG machine and the participants got the opportunity for individual practice with assistance from Mrs. Jeyalakshmi and Technician Ms. Abisha.

Simplifying 12 lead ECG Interpretation topic was presented by Dr.Hariprasad, DNB Registrar.  He explained the normal ECG interpretation with appropriate slides and it was very easy to understand.  The Recognition of ECG changes & clinical correlation was presented by Dr. Chandra Kumar Immanuel, MD, DM (Cardiology) – Interventional Cardiologist, Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital.  He explained various clinical conditions with 12 leads ECGs.  His presentation was very useful for the participants to identify the various clinical conditions with ECG and particularly about Myocardial Infarction.

A simple approach to life threatening Arrhythmias & Interventions was presented by Dr. Jeyanthan, MD (Anaesthesiology), Consultant Anaesthesiologist.  He explained the life threatening Arrhythmias & interventions with suitable rhythm strips and Algorithms.  It was very informative and useful.  Mrs. Mabel Samson, Nursing Administrator explained about the Nurses Role in ECG Monitoring and Recording.

During the valedictory function Mrs.Subha. Associate professor, Sree Ramakrishna College of Nursing, Kulasekaram, appointed as observer by Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives council gave her feedback about the seminar.  In her speech she appreciated the management and organizing committee members for the well- organized and useful seminar.

Certificates of participation were distributed to all the delegates.  Vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Mabel Samson, Nursing Administrator of the hospital. She expressed her thanks to Nursing Council for sending the observer and for sanctioning credits.

The seminar was successful in meeting the objectives. 74 delegates participated in this seminar. The seminar ended with National Anthem at 5pm.
