National Nutrition Week

Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing and the Dietary department of Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust celebrated National Nutrition Week from 1st -7th September, 2018. The theme for this year was “Go further with food”. An exhibition was arranged based on five different aspects. The first aspect was on dietary modification for Diabetes Mellitus and Chronic renal failure for which one day menus for 1800 kcal and posters for 1500 kcal & 2000 k

cal were made. For hypertension, posters on complications and foods to be avoided by a hypertensive patient and posters on acidic & alkaline foods for patients with Gastro-esophageal reflux disease were displayed.

The second section was on foods that are rich in Protein, Fibre, Calcium, Iron & Folic acids for Adolescents. The third was on the ill effects of junk foods. The fourth covered the benefits of water in the form of bioscope. The fifth section was a presentation on Malnutrition which comprised of protein energy malnourishment, anemia, vitamin deficiencies and obesity.

On the first day, the exhibition had been scheduled for OP & IP patients as well as the bystanders of Dr.JMT Hospital and nearly 40 patients viewed the exhibit. Day 3 – day 7 was open for various 9th-12th standard school students and 1st year college students. More than 400 Adolescent students witnessed the exhibition – of which, 250 were from schools and colleges in and around Nagercoil. They appreciated the programme and found it useful for them.

      The programme was organized by a team under the direction and support of Trustees Administrators and guidance of Mrs. Sarayu Priya, Principal of  Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing, Mrs.Mabelsamson, Nursing Administrator & Mrs.Karthika, Dietician. The team members of Dr.Jeyasekharan College of Nursing involved were Mrs.Alwin Viji, Reader, Mrs.Rekha, Asst.Professor, Mrs.Benzee, Nursing Tutor and Mrs.Sujitha, Nursing Tutor. The 1st year nursing students of the School of Nursing and 3rd year Dialysis students were involved in the arrangements of exhibition. Support for physical arrangements were made by Mr.Radhan and Mr.Udayakumar. We thank our Trustees and Administrators for their encouragements and successful completion of the programme.
