JMT-TACT Academy – Basic Life Support (BLS) Workshop – 07.03.2018

JMT-TACT Academy for Clinical Training organized a one day Basic Life Support (BLS) workshop for Rajas Dental College & Hospital – Staff, Post Graduates, Students and Interns on 07.03.2018 at Dr. JMT Auditorium, K.P.Road, Nagercoil. 47 delegates attended the workshop.

Dr. Renu Devaprasath, Medical Administrator & Lead Instructor of JMT-TACT Academy welcomed the Candidates to the workshop.

The workshop started with Course Introduction by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, Nurse Educator & AHA-BLS and ACLS instructor, Dr Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing Home followed by the workshop presentation. The first presentation was made by Dr. Jeyanthan, Consultant Anesthesiologist  and BLS & ACLS Instructor, presented the topic on “Adult Chain of Survival & Basic Life Support for Adults”. He highlighted the 2015 AHA guidelines, Adult Chain of Survival and compression & ventilation ratio for Adult, which were very useful for the participants to update their knowledge about CPR. He presented the topic in an active way with audience interaction. He explained the concept with suitable Demonstration videos.

Basic Life Support for Children & Infants presented by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi, Nurse Educator & BLS and ACLS instructor. She described the Paediatric Chain of Survival for witnessed and un-witnessed arrest very clearly. She explained about One & Two rescuer BLS sequence for infants with explanatory videos and she emphasized principally compression & ventilation ratio and number of CPR cycles for one & two rescuer CPR for infants. It was more informative.

AED, Recovery Position was presented by Mrs. Lettishia, Anaesthesia Technician Tutor, Dr.Jeyasekharan Hospital and Nursing Home. She explained the concepts with AED Machine. She demonstrated the Recovery position with appropriate videos. Team Dynamics topic was presented by Mrs. Jeyalakshmi. She explained the elements of team dynamics with Mega code video.

Foreign body airway obstruction Management (Choking) was presented by Dr. Jeyanthan and he demonstrated the management of choking in infants, adults and pregnant women with suitable videos.

After the theory presentation the delegates were divided into 3 groups and they practiced the Adults & Infant BLS Hands-on Training under the supervision of BLS Instructors with manikins. One rescuer and two rescuer methods and sequences were taught by the Instructors and each participant had the opportunity to practice. Theory & Skill tests were conducted. During skill testing station the CPR quality, AED use and Adult and Infant BLS sequences were demonstrated by the delegates and evaluated by the BLS Instructors. The delegates who completed the tests successfully were given the BLS provider Certificates and Cards, with a validity of 2 years.

The workshop was successful in meeting the objectives. Through this workshop the delegates were trained in BLS Skills and critical concepts of high quality CPR and use of the AED for victims, which are vital to provide good quality CPR to save lives. The workshop ended at 4 pm.
