Endoscopic Thyroidectomy/ Scarless ThyroidectomyJanuary 17, 2017
Thyroidectomy using open method is effective, well tolerated and safe, but involves a transverse incision on the neck measuring 12-15 cm in length. Surgical treatments for thyroid diseases require skin incisions that can result a permanent and prominent scar in the neck. Some scars may even grow and make the neck ugly. Thyroid disorders are more common in women and they find these scars uncomfortable and cosmetically unacceptable. Hence, endoscopic approach is playing an ever increasing role in neck surgery as they results in elimination of the scar in the neck.
Dr. Jeyasekharan Hospital has broadened its horizons by introducing Endoscopic Thyroidectomy for the first time in this Institution. Our endoscopic technique using the axillary approach helps to remove large nodules of the thyroid as well as performing total thyroidectomies. Our endoscopic approach is less invasive, less pain and paresthesia (abnormal sensation) which is more common in open surgery. Patient can go home in 2-3 days and it gives a very good COSMETIC RESULTS without any scar in the neck. One can never appreciate that he or she had undergone a surgery in the neck.
SCARLESS ENDOSCOPIC Surgery can be done for other neck swelling like tumor arising from parathyroid.
