EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Training Course
The hospital has a unique short hands-on training course for Emergency Medical Technicians. While this is a well-established cadre abroad its potential has not yet been fully realized here in India . Emergency medicine depends heavily on life supporting first aid given within the first few minutes of an incident and quite often it is impossible for patients to be seen by doctors within this time.
Recognizing the fact that with a small amount of basic training, able and enthusiastic young men even without a background in the health sciences could be able to perform this job doubling up as ambulance drivers as well, Dr.Renu Devaprasath instituted the 2 month EMT training course at Dr.NDJH (eligibility HSC pass). Ten EMTs have been trained and they have proven a good resource; especially for manning the EARC’s and in the triage of the A&E area.
The concept has been forwarded to the directorate of medical education and we hope to see this as a full fledged course all over the state in the near future.
