Clinical Psychology
The Department of Clinical Psychology in Dr. Jeyasekharan Medical Trust has been able to assist children and adults who need psychological help. Detailed case-history is obtained, which makes the diagnosis and treatment easier. Two different populations are being received: 1) Adults 2) Children
Adults with anxiety, depression, OCD, interpersonal conflicts, couples counseling, marital counseling, and unknown physical problems come for help. Depending on the problem the client is given counseling, psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, behavior modification, assertiveness training, personality development, stress management, parenting skills and so on.
Children with behavior problems, difficulty in studies, autism, hyperactivity and other psychological problems are being treated here. They are administered psychological assessments, behavior modification, psychotherapy, counseling, guidance, learning skills training and memory techniques depending on their requirement.
The Department also organizes workshops or group-therapy for children with cleft-lip palate, who are treated at Dr. Jeyasekharan Cleft Care Centre, once a month. Specific age group is identified and is included for the workshop. It includes assessments, interactive learning, personality development, stress management, boosting self-esteem, building positive attitude and much more. The parents also get sessions and are taught parenting skills.
Apart from that, the in-patients also receive psychological treatment when necessary – like general counseling, family counseling, palliative counseling, guidance, behavior modification, assessment, therapy, etc. The department is interested and is also involved in research.
